Staff Satisfaction Surveys

….measuring staff attitudes to help improve
customer service, efficiency and profitability

What do your employees really think about your organization?
Are they motivated? What needs to be done to improve attendance, customer relations, and effectiveness?
Conducting a regular occupational climate survey to understand employee attitudes and perceptions is a helpful step towards ensuring that performance is maximized.

Staff Satisfaction Surveys: An Overview of Staffprobe®
Many organizations genuinely believe their greatest asset is their workforce, but not all employers fully understand the attitudes and perceptions of their staff. This is critical if organizational performance is to be maximized.
Staffprobe® is an employee survey designed to capture and research opinions and attitudes in key performance areas such as team-work, management style, communications, staff recognition, commitment, training & development, and pay & conditions. Undertaken in a cost-effective and confidential manner, it provides actionable information such that you can introduce corrective strategies where appropriate.

Whilst we design tailor-made solutions for all our clients, we always measure progress towards the
‘good practice’ principles and the supporting indicators which are embodied in the Investor In People
Award Scheme.

The IIP’s ‘Good Practice’ Principles
Commitment
Planning
Action
Evaluation

Employees' rating of their organization can be measured and tracked over time on the following indicators:

  Commitment to:

staff development

continuous improvement

staff recognition

equality of opportunity

  Ensuring that:

staff development is consistent with those aims

staff understand their contribution to the organization

staff are inducted, learn and develop effectively

managers are effective in supporting staff development

staff development improves organizational performance

staff understand the impact of their development

  Producing and communicating:

a plan with aims & objectives understood by staff

The results can be reported by department, staff grade, length of employment, gender, site or other relevant criteria to help organizations understand where the root of any particular issues may lie.
By commissioning a staff survey employers are sending a positive signal to their staff that they are listening organizations, but this must be matched by a commitment to follow-up on the findings.
Confidentiality and anonymity are key requirements. For this reason we suggest that all questionnaires should be returned directly to the agency and not to the employer. This ensures greater confidence on
the part of respondents and will lead to greater honesty in answering the questions, and to a higher
response rate.

We also advocate using online staff satisfaction surveys if possible. This has a number of benefits:
Administrative simplicity
Greener - less wasteful of resources
Generates higher response rates
Lower cost

Many organizations will require both an on-line survey and paper questionnaires for different groups of employees. Whatever the method, effective in-company marketing of the survey is needed.
Organizations which communicate through as many media channels as possible will achieve higher response rates. Try team briefings, pay-slip advertising, notice board advertising and staff news sheets.
A survey that provides a thorough understanding of staff attitudes and perceptions, such as Staffprobe® is the first essential step in developing HR strategies that really can improve staff motivation, reduce staff turnover, increase innovation, and lead to better customer retention - all of which will increase productivity and reduce costs.
